Press release on the official working visit to Azerbaijan of the delegation led by Mircea Abrudea, Acting President of the Senate of the Romanian Parliament
A delegation headed by the Acting President of the Senate of the Romanian Parliament Mircea Abrudean made an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan on 13 April.
The guests were welcomed at Heydar Aliyev International Airport, where the national flags of the two countries were flown, by the Chairman of the Milli Majlis Working Group on Interparliamentary Relations with Romania Azay Guliyev, Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Romania Gudsi Osmanov, Ambassador of Romania to Azerbaijan Vasile Soare and other officials.
The delegation led by Mircea Abrudea visited the Victory Park on April 14 and laid a wreath at the Victory Monument. Here, a guard of honor was lined up in honor of the guests, and detailed information was provided about the Victory Park, which was created to commemorate the unparalleled heroism and magnificent historical victory of the Azerbaijani people in the Patriotic War, and to perpetuate the dear memory of our martyrs.
Later, the delegation visited the grave of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev in the Alley of Honor, respectfully commemorated the dear memory of the National Leader, and laid a wreath at his grave.
On 14 April, a delegation headed by the Acting President of the Senate of the Romanian Parliament Mircea Abrudean met with the Speaker of the Milli Mejlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova expressed her confidence that this visit would contribute to the development of relations between the two parliaments and countries. She noted that Romania was the second country in the world and the first among the European Union countries to recognize the independence of Azerbaijan. Gafarova also spoke about the deep-rooted ties of friendship between the two countries.
The parties noted that relations between Azerbaijan and Romania have reached the level of strategic partnership, as they pointed out the role of high-level visits in developing the bilateral relations.
The sides mentioned that relations between Romania and Azerbaijan pave the way for further development of cooperation between the legislative bodies. They also stressed the role of parliamentary friendship groups, and the importance of establishing direct contacts between parliamentary committees.
Sahiba Gafarova also underscored the successful cooperation between Azerbaijan and Romania within international organizations.
During the conversation, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis also provided insight into the current situation in the region following the Patriotic War, the pressures Azerbaijan faced from several European countries after it restored its territorial integrity, as well as the struggle against fake news, and the progress of the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
The meeting also discussed the restoration and reconstruction efforts carried out by Azerbaijan in the territories liberated from occupation, the "Smart City" and "Smart Village" projects, the return of its residents to their native lands, and ensuring the restoration of the rights of Western Azerbaijanis.
Mircea Abrudean noted that there is a great potential for further development of cooperation between the two countries in many areas. He noted that Romania has always recognized the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, supported the country in international organizations, especially in PACE, and backed the peace plan with Armenia. He expressed his belief that a peace agreement will be signed soon, adding that a bright future awaits this region.
Highlighting the successful cooperation with Azerbaijan in energy, transport and other spheres, Mircea Abrudean noted that a Memorandum of Understanding was signed for the application of the "ASAN service" experience in Romania, and that they are studying this experience.
The meeting also included discussions on other matters of mutual interest.
On 14 April, a delegation headed by Acting President of the Senate of the Romanian Parliament Mircea Abrudean met with Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ali Asadov.
The meeting hailed the dynamic development of relations between Azerbaijan and Romania based on strategic partnership.
During the meeting, the sides hailed the excellent political dialogue between the two countries, emphasizing the importance of reciprocal visits by heads of state and at other levels in terms of enhancing relations. The two stressed the significance of successful collaboration and mutual support between the two countries within international organizations.
Regarding the interparliamentary cooperation, they underscored the importance of reciprocal visits at the parliamentary level, as well as the activities of friendship groups in both countries’ parliaments.
The parties commended the expansion of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Romania in economic and trade, investment, oil and gas, green energy, transport, public service delivery, humanitarian and other domains.
The meeting also explored the prospects for cooperation in a number of areas of mutual interest.
A parliamentary delegation led by Mircea Abrudean visited the park named after the prominent Romanian composer George Enescu, located in the Binagadi district, Baku.
Members of the Romanian parliamentary delegation laid flowers at the monument to George Enescu and paid tribute to his memory.
